Combat Kettlebell Systems by Joey Alvarado is an excellently-realized and thoughtfully-produced Kettlebell workout dvd. As one who has absolutely no mma training or fighting experience, i purchased this dvd with the hope of learning new kettlebell-oriented exercises and gaining new workout ideas-- both of which are in abundance in Joey's dvd. I am simply astounded with this man's genius when it comes to creating new, but somehow yet familiar, kettlebell exercises. Moves like the "Combat Swings" and "Fighter Figure Eights" (just 2 of the many exercises) are simply inspired and challenge the exerciser to take simple kettlebell swings and figure eight to holds to a whole other level. I was amazed, for example, at the extra posterior chain emphasis in the "Combat Swings" as compared to regular kb swings, which, as anyone who has done a proper swing knows, already work the posterior chain quite well. In Joey's hyped-up version of the classic swing, you stand in a staggered stance with the back foot at a 45 degree angle. This causes the hamstring of the front leg to work much harder than in a normal kb swing, kinda like doing a pseudo one-legged swing. I definitely felt the burn much quicker in this version of the swing. Since I'm not a fighter, many of the exercises are a little foreign to me, but if you are at all experienced with mma, BJJ, or boxing, then many of the moves may be more familiar. The dvd format is the best I've seen, with a keen eye to detail. Every exercise is chapter-ed and separated in the menu, so you can go directly to a specific exercise. He gets right to the meat and potatoes in his instruction, with no fluff or extra words. The instructions are clear and concise, with a demonstration by Joey and then another demo by one of the 2 trainees that do the workout with him. The workouts, there are 3 by the way, are broken up into 3, 4, and 5 minute rounds repeated 3,4, and 5 times respectively. Each round incorporates the exercises that you learn in the instructional section. The actual workouts are well-sequenced and flow very well. There is a timer displayed for each exercise. The exercises are occasionally out of sync with the timer, with Joey and the 2 students starting the next exercise before the timer has expired . I must say that this a very small issue and probably won't even make a difference to a normal person. Overall, this dvd is the best designed workout kettlebell dvd on the market because it incorporates an excellent dvd format with quality instruction from an excellent trainer. A hybrid of classic kb and fighter moves, you simply can't go wrong with this purchase. The workout will knock you on your ass. And you just can't beat the overall value here, folks. There are 3 no-nonsense workouts. You barely get one wokout in other instructor's dvds. This project was obviously a labor of love for Mr Alvarado and My Mad Methods, and I for one am glad they thought enough to bring this system into our world.

I am loving this workout! It is both challenging and fun. I have to admit I can't quite do some of the moves, but that doesn't stop me, I just keep practicing. I also like the shorter format and find it as effective as many longer workouts I no longer do. I browse the website often and look forward to more-please!

My name is Albert Rios and i currently a Pro MMA fighter. I have been training in MMA for 7 years. I recently started training with Joey Alvarado and the Combat Kettle Bell Systems. The CKS is the perfect training system for MMA fighters. All the movements are the same moments from BJJ, wrestling, and Muay Thai. The CKS does not only help you improve those movements but develops awesome cardio, strength, and explosion. It would be a great addition to anyone MMA training.

As a huge advocate of kettlebells, I like to keep my clients happy and entertained using various unconventional methods: Kettlebells, TRX, Clubs, Heavy Rope, and Metabolic Body Weight Training. When I first came across the Combat Kettlebell Systems (CKS) DVD, I knew this was a must have DVD to add to my Personal Training arsenal.
The variety and explosiveness that CKS had to offer was truly awesome! CKS took Mixed Martial Arts and put together a comprehensive yet exciting workout for everyone. As a Personal Trainer the CKS has allowed me to incorporate another dimension of fitness. If you are looking to advance your Kettlebell training then I suggest giving CKS a shot!
Kettlebells, in my opinion are the best form of unconventional training methods in building superior strength and great condition. CKS will only enhance your results!
